Getting Things Done

The real secret to business success is getting things done. It is not about ‘doing’ things.

Getting things done is accomplishment.

Getting things done either on time or even ahead of schedule is great accomplishment.

And herein lies the challenge for most businesses: People spend their working hours either ‘doing’ things or planning to ‘do’ things.

Yet, to illustrate metaphorically, there is a difference between labour pains and actually giving birth. Successful entrepreneurs get things done.

Business owners want their people to get things done, yet repeatedly ask about the ‘doing’ of what they want done.

Corporations err on the ‘doing’ side instead of the getting things done side – usually due to not being able to sign off the ‘doing’ of the thing.

There are 4 stages of important work: Do; Doing, Delegating, Done.

Only the last is actual accomplishment.

The rest are just going through the motions.

Do not spend your time being busy ‘doing’ things, instead apply yourself to get whatever it is your business really must have accomplished, done.
